Compline – Sunday, 9th August 2020
Welcome to the Garden Congregation Youtube Channel!
Thank you for joining us!
When Canterbury Cathedral was closed because of the Covid pandemic in March 2020 the then Dean, Robert Willis, and his partner Fletcher took to filming daily services in their garden through to May 2022. Usually joined each day by at least one of their cats (Monkey, Lilly, Tiger or Leo) and a whole host of their menagerie from pigs and chickens to hedgehogs and newts and whilst sitting in the gardens through all seasons, this is a wonderful way to switch off and meditate whilst listening to a mix of poetry, recitals, current affairs, music – and of course the daily psalms and readings from the bible which are then explored and unpicked by Dean Robert.

another's woe and not be in sorrow too can i see another's grief and not seek for kind relief can i see a falling tear and not feel my sorrows share can a father see his child weep nor be with sorrow filled can a mother sit and hear an infant groan an infant fear no no never can it be never never can it be and can he who smiles on all hear the wren with sorrows small hear the small birds grief and care hear the woes that infants bear and not sit beside the nest pouring pity on their breast and not sit the cradle near weeping tear on infant's tear he just give his joy to all he becomes an infant small he becomes a man of woe he doth feel the sorrow too think not thou can sire sigh and thy maker is not by think not thou canst weep a tear and thy maker is not near oh he gives to us his joy that our grief he may destroy till our grief is fled and gone he does sit by us and moan [Music] so so oh so [Music] okay
